Misreading God’s Signals
This is Seeking Him by Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth, brought to you in SASL by Revive Our Hearts SA.
We can view life’s circumstances according to how they affect our hopes and conveniences. When problems arise, we may rush to God asking Him to remove the trouble rather than seeking His perspective. Arthur Matthews, a missionary in China, experienced years of house arrest with his wife and daughter after the Communists took control. His writings demonstrate what it means to embrace God’s purposes in suffering. When we view security, prosperity and physical well-being as evidence of God’s blessing, we can become people who seek escape and relief from unpleasant realities. When God allows suffering and affliction, we should not misread His intentions. Instead of resenting, resisting or running from the cross, we should embrace it and trust the heart of the One who died for us. Romans 12:2 calls us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds so that we can discern God’s good, pleasing and perfect will.
